Other drone tracking systems use a dedicated GPS and radio to make GPS updates more frequent.
If your chasing a motor bike around and they keep changing direction wont we need quicker updates than what a smart phone can provide?

Yea, that's one of the things I plan to do with Tau Link ( http://instagram.com/p/uRv2uGFqkj/?modal=true ). Run a GPS on the remote modem side and provide some form of filtered position estimate for tracking. It leads pretty naturally into a nicer control scheme for following.

Could go a few steps further if said remote GPS WIFI locator had a couple buttons for take off, land, return to launch, emergency stop, higher, lower.

or am I just being greedy? :)

I assume you will make the Tau Link available to the public, any ideas when that will be? I'm looking for a good telemetry modem and the GPS feature sounds great

No timeline yet. The latest revision seems to work quite well in initial testing. I'm still working on the code and haven't even touched modem-to-modem communications since I've been focused on modem-to-Sparky2.

I did get some POI testing in today.

Does this primarily show off the gimbal tracking the position?
Is that you maintaining the altitude when its following behind her?

Exactly, I had control of throttle, roll and pitch. The yaw was controlled and the gimbal took care of the camera pitch.
