sparky 2 with brushed motor

by hank.su1968 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 4:22 am

Hello all mentors:

I have read the topic " sparky 2 with brushed motor" and try build one my own. I have follow the harness schematic as posted.

After I have completed all soldering and assembly, I have found a problem. If I plug into the 3.7V battery, all 4 motors will star rotatoring. I have followed the video and go to vehicle page, select motor channel 10,9,8,7; and I didset the motor netual at 0.

It didn't work, as I plug in the battery, all 4 motor will run like crazy. I use multimeter check the voltage which was ok.

Should I use osclli scope to check the PWM signal? Why all motor will run as the battery is plugged in? Is it possible somthing wrong with the board I purchased?

Could someone help me and give me a clue? I will purchase a new board sparky 2 as your recommandation.

Thanks.

The default configuratuon will do that. Look at the .uav file on the wiki for brushed sparky. It configures the outputs for something like 16k update rate, and critically a min/neutral time going as low 0

Dear Peabody:
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have download the parameter .uav file and import it in my GCS because I have read the topic of your answer to another member. The GCS and firmware I used is "20150922-f069ece425". I will post the photo of my expermental work tonight which might be easier to find out where the problem is.

thanks..

Dear mentors:
I have downloaded the .UAV file -"brushedsparky-20140428.uav", but I still screw up with the PWM settings. I couldn't find the 16Khz rate. The defaults are as the attachments.

Could someone help and point out what my problem is?

Thanks...

Hello every one,
I've got new one Sparky2 and got the same problem: all 4 motors start rotating simultaneously when battery connected. Could you help how to configure flight controller?
I'm also learning the taulabs wiki but still not found the useful article.

I found this article https://github.com/TauLabs/TauLabs/wiki/Brushed-Sparky
and start following it.
When I tested outputs a found channels 7 (VTOLMotorSW) and 9 (VTOLMotorNE) have to be inverted and start react to slider, but channels 8 and 10 didn't react on the slider movement.

@hank.su1968 Could you check it also?

May be that motors should be configured something different?

Here is my output config

Hello xenos1303:
Honestly, I didn't work out to build my sparky 2 with brushed motor. The spark 2 was a chinese clone board, and my friend purchased for me because I live in Taiwan. I found that sparky 2 has many problems, such as bad pressure sensor and crash on uploading firmware, .. etc. I finally give up my sparky 2 and plan to buy another one, as the follows.

The flight controller is usually light weight so will not cost too much for shipment. It might be a good solution to be considered.

I am not sure what manufacturer of your sparky 2 is? It should work as the peady124's video footage if you got from the hobbiesfly store. You can also check the BOM for parts. https://github.com/TauLabs/TauLabs/tree ... sparky2/hw

I guess there must be something wrong with the Q1, Q2 on my sparky 2. It is difficult for me to check out what type of those 2 dual channel MOS FET they use? I am saving money and plan to buy another new one directly from the hobbiesfly. It would be better have the same flight controller board, better than those chinese clone boards. Not only playing brushed motor with sparky2, but also we can use in ROS and LQG, and so on. You can check those topics with Dr. peady124 in this forum.

Good luck...

Hello xenos1303:
Did you try to check the BOM parts. https://github.com/TauLabs/TauLabs/tree ... sparky2/hw
- I don't think the Q1 and Q2 on the chinese clone board are the same as the BOM. You might go buy those 2 mosfet and do hand solder rework later by yourself. See if it will work.

- There is another way to buy a motor drive board for those 4 coreless motors. It will work but cause extra weight for overall.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_ ... rive+board

It would be better have the same flight controller board, better than those chinese clone boards because it's hard to know what components they use on the clone board. We can trust the official source for sparky2 from the hobbiesfly.com because I have checked it already.

Hello hank.su1968,
I've got what are you talking about, but don't now how to check them. I can't re-solder any parts of flight controller, cause I'm trying to refund it.

I'm agree with you about having original Sparky2, I think I'll will buy it later.

I just would like to get a success story from you about brushed sparky 2. Let me know please when you finish.
