I'm curious if anyone has discussed incorporating features of dump1090 into GCS. It's an open source project that uses a software defined radio ($20) to receive aircraft transponder signals and overlay them on google maps.
It could make for an interesting geofencing safety feature to avoid aircraft.
I would be interested in supporting that feature. At a quicky glance, the project readme files don't seem to share hardware specifications (the simple antenna is pretty nice, though). Is there a good A to Z guide for purchasing all necessary hardware and getting it working?
If your interested in getting a setup running to test, just follow the piaware link above. That will walk you through how to get it up and running on a raspberry pi, but the same steps work with just a couple small changes in Ubuntu also. If you look at the flightaware forums, there is a lot more info also.
