Tau Labs on FBL helicopters, what's your experience?

by shred » Mon Mar 17, 2014 12:40 pm

I know there is support for helicopters in Tau Labs, but I haven't heard much about peoples experiences. I'm curious how well it works on flybarless (FBL) helicopters and how it compares to closed-source products (Vbar, beastx, etc.). I have a 450 sized helicopter collecting dust so I will probably try putting a Tau Labs FC on it in the near future before I do that it would be great to hear about your experiences.

I played around with FBL helicopters probably 18 months ago. The setup needs attention to detail and I can help you with that, but it works and flies. However, the reports from people that can fly them better than me is you won't get the quality of performance things like align have - so if you want hardcode 3D...

I don't own any heli yet. But i had a deep look at the T-Rex 250 now and thought about buying the FBL version without stabilizer later. A sparky without the 3rd hole should fit exactly in this little copter.
The advantage over (cheaper) commercial modules could be gps, altitude hold, and telemetry. Maybe the cpu power and the software got better than 18 months ago...

And that is why the third hole is a tab that can be broken off ;)
