maximum rate deg/s on brainFPV

by oliv98 » Sun Jul 19, 2015 7:46 am

Hi folks, it looks like I can't go over 425 deg/s with brainFPV, and i'll like to go with 500. Anything to do to get there in the GCS or via the OSD?
thanks a lot

The 425 deg/s is a GCS limitation. You can use the UAVObject browser to modify StabilizationSettings.MaximumRate. Also, you should update to the Brain-20150720 release, it allows you to set rates of up to 1440 deg/s using the OSD menu. In addition, you can also configure the stick expo, which helps at very high rates.

Edit: changed link from 20150717 to 20150720 release, which contains an additional bugfix.

You can also now configure AcroPlus for Rate on a given stabilization bank, or the AcroPlus flight mode, allowing you to greatly exceed the configured MaximumRate via 'manual' direct to actuators gyro suppression. The default is 40% but allows for progressively more `insane` values ;-)

I just started converting my quads (3 racers) to BrainFPV controllers, and am a pretty big fan of AxisLock, but am curious if Acro or AcroPlus is a viable alternative. As I understand AcroPlus was ported by fujin, do you have some insight? Thanks

Acro is just normal rate mode and definitely a viable alternative. To do crazy flips, you usually want to set high rates (e.g. 1440 deg/s) and add some expo to make it more flyable center stick. AcroPlus is an OP mode ported by fujin that basically bypasses the rate control loop and affects the actuators directly above a certain stick deflection. It let's you do crazy flips and people like it but it's kind of wacky from a controls theory perspective. Definitely try both :)

Be aware that GCS limits the rate to 85% of whatever the gyro range is set to on the board config page. 425 deg/sec is 85% of the default gyro range (500 Hz). ;)
