flitetest electrohub

by 36Ophiuchi » Mon Oct 05, 2015 5:05 pm

I started out with an openpilot cc3d which worked great and was super easy to setup for a n00b like me. But then I got the itch to try new things . . . The sparky has been much trickier to setup but I've finally got a pretty good setup that let's me get out and fly.

Curent build specs:

flitetest ElectroHub frame
Emax 2213-935kv motors
BLHeli 20 amp ESCs
Gemfan 10x4.5 props
Sparky Flight Controller 1.0 V2
uBlox 6M GPS
OrangeRx R615X receiver
Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C battery

My next steps are:
- tighter calibration
- get flight logging working
- get blutooth working

This doc seems to say that the sparky doesn't do logging natively, is that correct?

https://github.com/TauLabs/TauLabs/wiki ... rnal-flash

If not can anyone recommend a way at do this with maybe an add on logging board?

I've done that in the past with easy log but haven't done it recently so it would involve some coding more than likely. The simple solution would be connecting easy log to the telemetry output - i think even when not connected it streams data.

The only thing I can find called "easy log" is super expensive. Could I connect a sparkfun (or similar) openlog board to the main port? Then set the main port to "telemetry" in GCS?

Last night I put the sparky on rubber grommets for vibration damping and moved the GPS to the flexiport (which involved making a custom-ish cable) so I can have the main port free for bluetooth telemetry or logging. I flew the day before and found that the craft is actually flying much better than it did with my CC3D. Super responsive and my take offs are much less sketchy. Only issue that stood out was a tendency to drift in yaw. Actually, the wobbles when descending through it's own wash do seem to be more pronounced.

Try increasing the D term to lessen the descent wobbles. Yaw P usually has to up around 60 -100 to hold reasonably.

Hey 36opiuchi,
I've got a Electrohub too with angled arms.
Flies great with my borrowed Mikado Neo, but I have to put the Neo back in my heli and bought a Sparky2 and are fighting with the GCS.
Got it finally working and got the firmware on the Sparky2.

Can you please give me any any tips how to set it up?
The GCS software is new to me and I have still trouble finding my way in it.

Hey Quadskip--

Consider flying dRonin. We forked from Tau Labs about a year ago and have done a lot for usability, reliability, and flight performance.

Our documentation is here:

and releases are here:

@ icee
Thanks for the links. Before I change everything, would you please be so kind and explain the main differences and the advantage to switch to dRonin??
Thanks!

when i put it in it's fine for one hatch. but when i start it back up it doesn't want to work. it will heat up to 80-85 deg and stop there. this is the 2nd 1 that i put in and it's doing it again. what can i do differently?
